A twisted, wilting rose
A mumbled ‘I love you too’
A dropp of blood on a thorn
A dying golden sunset

A forgotten walk on the beach
A kiss, but on the cheek
A lonely space between
A disappearing act

A suspicion
A too sweet smile
A salty, bitter teardrop
A non-existent valentine’s card

A lipstick mark on his lips
A letter burning in the fire
A phone number, but for who
A ‘meeting at work’

A regularly empty bed
A box of crumpled tissues
A pale, sad face
A ‘no, everything’s fine’

A denial to oneself
A ‘he can’t be, I’m wrong’
A feeling of unrequited love
A growing pain in the heart
