AMD's Takes on Nvidia
Description
AMD has announced that its most advanced GPU for artificial intelligence, the MI300X, will begin shipping to select customers later this year. This development poses a significant challenge to Nvidia, which currently dominates the AI chip market with over 80% market share. GPUs, such as those produced by AMD and Nvidia, are crucial for building cutting-edge AI programs like ChatGPT. By potentially offering lower-priced alternatives to Nvidia's GPUs, AMD could exert price pressure and help reduce the high cost of serving generative AI applications. The MI300X chip, designed for large language and cutting-edge AI models, boasts a memory capacity of up to 192GB, enabling it to accommodate larger AI models than its competitors. AMD also plans to offer an Infinity Architecture that combines eight of its M1300X accelerators in a single system, similar to systems developed by Nvidia and Google.
