amber roser - a woodland

In the mournful gloom
crackling death knells of forest debris,
sound a thunderous symphony
as vegetation, castoff and prostrate,
perishes beneath the
cloven hooves of fleet-foot deer and
the unyielding earth below.

Ancient gargantuan trunks
stand sentinal.
Their gnarled limbs grown together
as each strives to reach the victors share
of life giving light.

Centuries of selfish survival
spent vying for position,
has created a vast canopy that shrouds
the very face of the sun.
Built like a temple to darkness,
the brown and green ceiling
presides over the black abyss.
