Today, as many as 5.1 million Americans may have Alzheimer's disease. It is the most common form of dementia among the elderly. Alzheimer's is caused by plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain. This leads to a degeneration of certain centers of the brain, primarily the ones responsible for memory.
