her heart shatters into a million little pieces
shrapnel embeds itself into her lungs
her brain
her everything
and her tears sting like fire
on her lips
as he passes by, yet again
a simple smile fails to form
and she curses silently
because there she goes, making a fool of herself again
that’s all she ever does
and he’ll just keep on walking, holding the Barbie’s hand
and she’ll just keep on staring, off in her Dreamland
and at night, when she’s all alone
she spends fifteen minutes dismantling the disposable razor
and tomorrow she’ll have to wear another long-sleeve
in eighty degree weather
because she hates herself
