Allyssa Barker - Evergreen Trees

now her hearts empty
and her mind’s closed
and every time she breathes
she feels a little more alone

she’s clinging on for dear life
hold to that iron rod
because she can’t help but wonder
what if there really IS a God?

it’s hard to fill a hollow heart
with words read from a book
how do you open a locked-up mind
with their “proof” everywhere you look?

but then there is that feeling
that what-if, that maybe, that hope
and if He’s there, that would explain
how she’s been able to cope

so it’s painful and it’s dificult
and she hasn’t a clue how to begin
but she’s trying and she’s working
to never be where she is again

and maybe her heart will fill
and maybe her mind will open
and maybe just that one breath
will be what keeps me hoping
