my eyes soften
as they touch your face

six creamy petals
blush pale pink

six long stamens
sweat beads of dew

six dark anthers quiver
as if they were having a conversation

(the posh folk insist they be nipped
to stop the rusty dust)

O perfect lilium -
your beauty could not have evolved by chance
or by Darwinian accident of genetic mutation
