Alison Cassidy - Sonnet for Baige
2 Views • Nov 07, 2014
Description
A man who was my mentor and my friend
Whose feisty presence towered o'er the stage
Whose voice of gravel thundered till the end.
His knowledge of the Bard was next to none
He sought the action underneath the text
He made rehearsals challenging and fun
We never knew just what was coming next.
He gave me all of Shakespeare's famous parts,
Ophelia, Desdemona, lady Anne.
He thrilled me with his passion for the arts
And helped me understand the words 'I can! '
It saddens me, remembering the day
That emphysema took his breath away.
Harold Baigent (1918 -1996)
'Now cracks a noble heart. Goodnight, sweet prince,
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest! ' Hamlet V ii line 372
