Alison Cassidy - February Fire Storm

It was theatrical -
the amber light
that slowly penetrated the sky.
It hung like a cloud
over the gasping garden,
masking momentarily
the harsh forty six degree sun.
For a few moments
I watched
euphoric,
transported,
omniscient…

The next day
170 deaths were reported
on the morning news
and the corpses of 700 homes
lay baking in the dust.
