Alison Cassidy - Colonizing Flight

The mist was alive this morning
I didn't notice at first
till I felt something
soft brush my face

and
hundreds and thousands
of tiny termite missiles
emerged from the whiteness
fluttering
purposefully
around me
till the air was thick with them

their mindless swarming
continued for half an hour
then gradually
petered out

and
as the air cleared
I noticed a single gum leaf
spiral slowly to the ground
