alisia bonnick - Gone

I know we've had a lot of fights
Throughout all of these years,
But I don't think that you should leave
Despite the shed of tears.

Please don't pack your bags,
I'm not ready to let you go.
But if you still insist
There are some things that you should know.

I never meant to yell at you
Or get under your skin;
And if those fights mean losing you,
I never meant to win.

Take me by the hand, I told her,
Just let me explain.
I'll take out all the garbage
Even fix the broken drain.

Her eyes watered slowly
As she simply shook her head.
She picked up both her bags,
Turned to me, then said:

I can't go on like this
Its been too bad for just too long.
I couldn't hear the rest...
The words escape me like a song.

But what I do remember
(And I will never forget)
Is the look she gave to me
Before she turned and left.

Her eyes told the story
Of many silent woes,
And though it would be hard,
I would have to let her go.

I watched her walk away
Now I finally understand;
Why I let her leave,
Why i didn't grab her hand...

For after all of the disputes
Our chances were in a cleft;
'Cuz i finally realised...
She was gone before she left.
