when evening comes and all
that’s left on the rickety shelf
is a one-inch candle and the
flickering hum of the desperate
flame is the one-way strum of
an endless pain, suspending time

I dangle

grasping high to quell my fears
flooding cries of childhood tears
self-contained in a deathless dream
I long in vain to swim upstream
eschewing fame in the Narrow Room
to carve my name in the Cosmic Womb
