Alice Blue Gown Orchestra - Nightfall
Description
This appears to be a pseudonym for Jack Berger & His Hotel Astor Orchestra. I couldn't retrieve any information about this band. They recorded six sides for Bluebird in 1933, six sides for ARC in 1931 and probably four sides for Crown in 1932. The vocalist with the band was variable, and on this 1932 side, not consistently appearing in the discographies, included tenor Jan Peerce singing the vocal refrain under the alias "Jack Pearl". Indeed, between February 1931 and November 1932, the renowned American tenor Jan Peerce (1904-1984) was a vocalist on recordings with New York-area dance bands, using the stage names "Jack Pearl" and "Pinky Pearl," shortened versions of his real name, Jacob Pincus Perelmuth. Thirteen sides have been identified with orchestras such as Jack Berger's Hotel Astor Orchestra, the Lou Gold Orchestra, and, quite possibly, American Record Corporation (ARC) studio bands under various orchestra pseudonyms. He made these recordings nine and ten years before his Metropolitan Opera Co. debut on 29 November 1941.
