Alex Kenneh - High Expectations

Dad's promises couldn't make the cut and for some reason I only had a father when I looked up. My mom was all I needed so I can't afford to keep wasting time helping an absent parent that missed my childhood play catch up.
Age twelve or younger a brother had big dreams of the oval office, balling on the court or the field, and being the ideal father; I never had when I was younger.
To this day my oldest cousin stays honest with me.
Whether she is encouraging me or disturbing my peace.
I am thankful for her believing in me.
My cousin sees me as a role model, how can I be?
I'm not perfect, in his eyes I'm just a rival he must beat before he manages to transform into the bigger man.
Preposterous beliefs come to mind when I day dream about possible lifestyles. What could I grow up to be?
Hopefully a better me or maybe a son of a proud mother that would be lovely. I aspire to take the road not taken one day.
