How can one make the distinction between provision of services and establishment?
Can one establish in several Member States? Is the Directive 98/5/EC applicable to
"trainee lawyers"? Does the Directive 98/5/EC allow lawyers to practise in another European Union country under their home-country professional title? Does the Directive 98/5/EC allow lawyers to practise in another European Union country under the host-country professional title? Which Member States of the European Union and the European Economic Area have implemented the Directive 98/5/EC and how does the transposition work in practice?

The profession of lawyer is covered by the general system for the recognition of professional qualifications. The ALDE Group is organizing a half-a-day seminar on the topic, with the participation of national experts, European Commission and associations of lawyers at the European level. The seminar will touch upon the obstacles and opportunities, taking into account also the creation of the European Area of Freedom, Security and Justice.
