Albright Knot

If you don’t like, can’t use or aren’t comfortable tying an improved blood knot to connect a class tippet to a bite tippet, you should consider using an Albright, which might be a better choice anyway. The Albright originated in the Florida Keys and was used in tarpon leader setups for connecting light class tippets to heavy bite tippets. Since then, the Albright has become very popular in offshore fly-fishing since there are many occasions when small-diameter monofilament needs to be connected to larger-diameter monofilament. Some anglers actually use the Albright to connect the butt section of the leader to the fly line in lieu of a loop. It’s also an extremely useful knot to know if you plan on fishing for toothy species such as sharks, barracuda or bluefish, because it is an effective way to splice steel with monofilament.
