Airlines Experiencing 'Deepest Crisis Ever'
Description
The trade group representing the world’s airlines called the last few months the "deepest crisis ever,” as more governments limit or suspend commercial air travel.
According to Reuters, as of late March, the International Air Transport Association estimated that the airline industry will lose over $250 billion dollars in 2020.
They urged governments to offer immediate financial support.
Alexandre de Juniac, head of the IATA explained “We have the people and the experience to see this through. But, to be perfectly frank, we don’t have the money.”
In the U.S., Congress voted to give the American aviation industry $58 billion, in a coronavirus rescue package.
Singapore Airlines secured $13 billion in funding.
