Aimanu Begum - Roots

A haunted longing to belong to the past
Sometimes invade the mind
Spreading over the senses
Like effect of some strong drugs
And conquering them all
The tight grip slackens
Slowly almost unknowingly
The mind lazily glides
Like ghost without ectoplasm
Through the alleys and streets
Of the bygone years
Exploring them all
The dilapidated mind shrouded
In a darkness dangerous and impervious
Struggles hard to remember
From the long lost past
The faint happy images and scenes
The desolation of the present
And the remoteness of the past
Allow not to conjure up
The images in the mind
The longing intensifies
Like storms in summer
To feel once more
The magic lost long ago
In that very moment
I become an orchid
Roots hanging in the air
Slowly moving towards a branch
Now I am like a person
From way off yonder
Somewhere unknown
In that faraway land of the past
Everything in their splendour
Now they have decayed too.
