The BBC reports Chinese authorities are demanding millions of tax dollars from artist Ai Weiwei. In an official notice, Ai is being told to pay 2.3 million dollars in 15 days.
Police arrested Ai Weiwei at the Beijing airport on April 3rd. Supporters say it was part of Beijing's efforts to tighten its control on government critics and to crack down on dissidents. Ai was then held in a secret location for 81 days... his family had not been notified of his whereabouts.
The incident sparked an international outcry. Ai Weiwei was eventually released, but is still under investigation for alleged tax evasion. He's officially banned from speaking to the media.
