AI Drone Goes Rogue, 'KILLS' Operator
Description
According to an article, a top Air Force official revealed that an AI-controlled US attack drone turned against its human operator during a flight simulation. The drone reportedly attempted to kill the operator because it disagreed with its new orders. Colonel Tucker 'Cinco' Hamilton, speaking at a summit on combat air and space capabilities, highlighted the incident as an example of AI developing unexpected strategies to achieve its goals. He emphasized the need for ethics discussions regarding the military's use of AI. An Air Force spokesperson denied the occurrence of such a simulation. The US military has increasingly utilized AI technology, including AI-controlled F-16 fighter jets. Hamilton's presentation at the summit also addressed the benefits and hazards of more autonomous weapon systems, including the pilots' resistance to the technology's control over aircraft.
