Take a supply of medication you may need and a first aid kit. Do your best not to stand out or look hopelessly lost, especially if there are known crime issues or a frequent blind eye towards harassement in the country or region. Lastly, communicate and make friends, but know if you're being pestered, followed, or being taken advantage of in anyway, and shy away from confrontation, not from your sense of adventure or the opportunities to discover.
