Addressing the 'problematic' situation of undocumented Afghan returnees

Pakistan is planning to cancel refugee status for all Afghans living within its borders by the end of 2012.

As the war rages on in Afghanistan, the decision will leave one of the world's largest refugee populations with nowhere to go following the December deadline.

Al Jazeera's Jennifer Glasse speaks to Dan Tyler of the Norwegian refugee council about the the logistical challenges a large-scale return of nearly three million refugees will place on both sides of the border.

In particular, Tyler says the undocumented Afghans currently living in Pakistan, estimated to number up to one million, will face especially grueling challenges once they are forced to return to Afghanistan.

Tyler, speaking to Al Jazeera from Kabul, says many of those forced to repatriate in the Central Asian nation will become "de-facto internally displaced people upon arrival in Afghanistan".
