Addie Taino - The Tea-Cake

On a white china plate
In the middle of a cherry-wood round dinner table
Sat a teacake.
Around the table
Sat three little dolls
And one little girl
Dressed in pink.
A fancy tea-party, indeed it was
But nobody noticed
The yellow and black butterfly
That landed on the teacake
Right atop the glistening cherry.
It fluttered its wings, marveling at its reflection
In the cherry
Sneaking a single lick
The creature fluttered off.
And by the time the little girl
Sat down to devour her tea-cake,
She, nor the dolls, did not know
The magic that was bestowed
Upon the tea-cake's cherry.
