Adam Zank - Why?

Your gates are locked,
drawbridge drawn in,
a fortress awaiting the first
breath of dawn.

Why have you barred your gates,
you let no one in,
Not the life hidden in the food,
not the happiness hidden within,
Not even the light
from day's begin.

What force drove you to act this way,
what have we done to displease,
How have we earned this vile treatment,
How can we appease?

I travel now, and leave you alone,
your friends long gone,
to think on this punishment,
as night turns to dawn.

Are you not lonely?
silence answers,
and not a sound save the birds, in the forest by the road.

Wont you open up and let me in?
