How covert can a dagger be
Impaled in the negligent heart,
Who from their mindless sanctity see
No knowledge of use impart?
Free wealth like a lighted beacon shines
But in decay is obscured;
For self-induced ignorance binds
And smothers those it lures.

Only a balanced life can feel
Harmony in its full;
Else a plush trap threatens to steal
The mind, and its functions dull.
Free time is as valuable as gold,
And tenacious as a stone,
Thus wisely must opportunity unfold;
Success does not yield, nor loan.

Thoughtless diversion reaps no fruition
And serves not to calm, but to bore;
For senseless amusement took place of tradition –
Of Elysium – Aeneas – e’en Lenore.
Only when the mind is employed
Is a thing worth doing;
Wisdom fulfills when one chooses to avoid
Unworthy endeavors one’s pursuing.
