The scientific community's consensus on the discovery of DNA is nuanced:

Structure of DNA (the double helix, 1953)
The credit is broadly shared among four people:

James Watson & Francis Crick - proposed the double helix model, published in Nature, and received the 1962 Nobel Prize

Rosalind Franklin - her X-ray crystallography image ("Photo 51") was pivotal evidence that Watson and Crick used, reportedly without her knowledge or full consent. The scientific community has increasingly recognized that she was inadequately credited during her lifetime, partly due to gender bias of the era. She died in 1958 and Nobel Prizes aren't awarded posthumously.

Maurice Wilkins - also did X-ray work and shared the 1962 Nobel Prize with Watson and Crick

DNA as the carrier of genetic information (1944)

Oswald Avery, Colin MacLeod, and Maclyn McCarty - demonstrated that DNA (not protein) carries hereditary information, a foundational discovery predating the double helix

DNA's existence as a molecule (1869)

Friedrich Miescher - first isolated DNA (which he called "nuclein") from cell nuclei

When people say "discovered DNA" they almost always mean the double helix structure, because that's the breakthrough that changed biology forever.
"Watson, Crick, Wilkins and Franklin are credited with discovering the structure of DNA, though Miescher first identified DNA as a substance decades earlier."
