Accidental Encounter Part 2 ? "When Material Turns to Medium"
The exhibition "When Material Turns to Medium" showcases paintings, sculptures and craftworks made of discarded or daily materials. For instance, "What Are You Looking For" by Noh Sang-kyoon covered ordinary mannequins with some thousands of sequins. With his piece, Noh questions if mannequins, the ideal figure in today's society, will still the same significances even if they were made of sequins. Also, Ham Youn-joo created an image of the Milky Way in the night sky with her hair through "Show Me Your Hair," while Hwang Ran created a bird flying to the sky with small beads and thin thread. By hammering her piece into the wall, she represented the restrictions that come with freedom. These pieces seem familiar at first, however, there is more to these pieces than meets the eye, signifying that the meanings underneath these materials are the reason why the pieces exist.
