Abuja bomb suspects charged

A total of 19 suspected members of the radical Islamist Boko Haram sect were brought to a magistrates court in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, accused of a range of attacks.
Four of them are charged with orchestrating last month's suicide bombing of the United Nations' headquarters in the city which killed at least 23 people and wounded more than 100.
The four entered no pleas because the court said the case was beyond its jurisdiction and sent it to the Federal High Court for a hearing on November 3.
Nigeria's state security service has offered a reward of more than 160, 000 dollars for information leading to the capture of another man, Mamman Nur, whom they believe to be the mastermind behind the attack.
The other suspects appearing before the magistrates at the same time are accused of offences ranging from carrying out bomb attacks to possession of firearms or explosives and conspiring in terrorism.
Boko Haram, which does not have the support of the majority of Nigeria's Muslims, wants Islamic sharia law applied more widely.
The sect is blamed for killings that have been happening almost daily around its home base in the remote northeast.
