A tinder box in Iraq

Four suicide bombers target a police station in Iraq, killing at least four policemen and wounding more than a dozen.

The bombers attempted to enter the police station in Ramadi.

. (SOUNDBITE)(Arabic) LIEUTENANT COLONEL FROM JUWAIBA POLICE CENTER, ZAYDAN KHALEF, SAYING:

"Terrorists groups targeted our police station with a car bomb and three suicide bombers . Thanks to our brave policemen, we managed to get the attack under control and kill all the attackers and prevent them from entering the police station."

Across Iraq at least 20 people were killed and 35 wounded in bombings and shootings.

Iraq is suffering from its worst surge in violence in at least five years, with insurgents stepping up bombing campaigns against security forces and civilians raising fears of an all out sectarian conflict.
