Former Chancellor Helmut Kohl famously promised blossoming landscapes in eastern Germany at the time of reunification. Well, that has now come to pass, if a little more literally than was intended. The IBA international construction exhibition has been underway since 2000 in the Lausitz region. This year it draws to an end.Arts.21 takes a look at the effects of urban and regional developments...and how a former opencast mining region has become one of the largest manmade lake developments in Europe.
