Description

The Academy Awards were held on Sunday (February 26), but some "vintage" Oscars were also winners on Tuesday (February 28) in Los Angeles.

Fifteen Oscars were auctioned off by Nate D. Sanders Auctions, bringing in a total of more than 3 million dollars.

Herman Mankiewicz's 1941 Best Screenplay Academy Award for "Citizen Kane," brought in the highest price with a winning bid of more than 588,000 (USD) dollars.

The 1941 Academy Award for Best Picture, "How Green Was My Valley," was also a winner selling for more than 274,000. The film is noted for besting "Citizen Kane" at the Academy Awards for top picture honors.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences forbids the sale of Oscar trophies, but their "winners agreement" only dates back to 1950. All 15 Oscars up for sale were awarded before that time.
